Cable theft hits twice in Bryanston

BRYANSTON - Cable theft has reportedly occurred twice at the corner of Bryanston Drive and Devonshire Road in Bryanston.

A concerned resident, who does not wish to be named, said the cables had been stolen twice at the same spot, in the space of two weeks. “City Power needs to put measures in place to secure cables which are repeatedly targeted,” said the resident. “Affected residents are frustrated about the situation.”

Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp, said he asked City Power to secure the cable in a steel sleeve, which can be buried just below the surface. “This problem is happening across Johannesburg, and it really looks as if City Power, despite spending millions of annually on security, is powerless to stop these criminals,” added Earp.

No comment was received from City Power by the time of publication.
