JOBURG - The glitz and the glamour of South Africa's TV and film industry was brought to Gallagher Estate, Midrand.

The annual South African Film and Television Awards was a two-day event and began with the awarding of the behind-the-scenes talent – the people who bring award-winning content to the screens, but are never seen on screen.

Some of the highlights from the first night were Thierry Cassuto and Alex Fynn winning Best Directing in TV Comedy for ZANews: Puppet Nation. Best Short Film was awarded to Picture Perfect Heist.

Four Corners won its first award for Best Achievement in Cinematography for a Feature Film, and went on to win Best Achievement in Original Score – Feature Film; Best Achievement in Sound – Feature Film, and the coveted Best Feature Film.

On the second day of the awards the stars came out to play.

The day saw the hotly-contested soapie awards kick-off with Isibaya winning the best Soapie award and Masasa Mbangeni winning Best Actress in a Lead Role – TV Soap. The Best Actor in a Lead Role – TV Soap went to Jamie Bartlett for his role as David Genaro in Rhythm City.

This year’s Life Time Achiever Award went to Marius Weyers. He has been in the industry for nearly 50 years and has appeared in more than 35 feature films, numerous television productions and 115 theatre productions.
