Businesswoman shares tricks of the trade

HYDE PARK - Businesswoman and founder of children’s clothing boutique Keedo Kids, Nelia Annandale shared tips about her successful business with guests at Southern Sun Hyde Park.

Annandale spoke about her success as a businesswoman and how her business has been so successful throughout the years. She opened her first Keedo Kids shop 21 years ago in Cape Town. “People used to stop me, asking me where I bought my children’s clothing,” she said. Annandale used to make her own children’s clothes and after a number of people showed interest in the clothing, she decided to start a clothing line for children.

Her clothing is now exported to more than 22 countries with 21 Keedo Kids stores opened worldwide. “Starting a business is not easy but it is about having faith in yourself and taking the leap,” she said.

Annandale added that it was important for aspiring businessmen and women to conduct research about their industry before embarking on starting a business. “Hard work, focus and dedication is everything,” she said. “Never compromise on quality and always stand by your value.”

She explained that she decided from the start of her business that she wanted to make clothes for children and not to size down adult wear to fit children. “It is important to know your consumer and to have a passion for your trade,” she added. “I’m not in the business for money. The money is a bonus but I love what I do and sharing my blessings with others.”

Annandale is involved in a number of charity initiatives and has recently partnered with former Miss South Africa, Jo-Ann Strauss on another charity initiative, Little Miracle, a clothing range in support of the Feed a Child Project.
