Parks neglected by City Parks

SANDTON - Residents have been waiting for City Parks to cut the grass at various parks located in the Sandton area.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “Whilst we are aware that December/January is always a difficult period to have grass cutting done due to the holidays, necessary resources and planning should be put in place to get parks cut shortly after the December/January holiday period.”

Some of the areas in question include the servitudes in the Hurlingham and Glenadrienne area along the Braamfontein Spruit.

“The parks of Hurlingham Manor are well used, the residents of this suburb even installed an outdoor jungle gym at their own cost to enhance the park and the facilities the park offers,” added Potter.

Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp expressed his concerns that he has not seen the work schedule from City Parks for the parks in his ward.

“Residents are very unhappy with the poor service presently been given by City Parks officials in the area,” added Earp. He mentioned that the grass at the Field and Study Park is not cut regularly and in some cases there are areas of the park that are simply not cut at all.

Earp added that the cutting of the grass islands and verges along William Nicol Drive are also at a standstill.

Resident Daphne Schwab said there was still no sign of the rest of the park being cut between Duxberry and Valley Lodge.

“We had to cut two metres of weeds out of our electric fence as it kept going off,” explained Schwab.

No comment was received from City Parks by the time of publication.
