UPDATE: Top Billing presenter killed in accident on William Nicol Drive

BRYANSTON - Metro police spokesperson Edna Mamonyane confirmed that Top Billing presenter Simba Mhere was killed in the collision on William Nicol Drive.

The accident took place at 5.30am on 31 January.

Mamonyane said Mhere was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle with two passengers when a VW Polo crashed into the side of the vehicle. A Mazda which was travelling behind the Mitsubishi was also hit in the collision. The VW Polo was travelling in a westerly direction from the highway and Mamonyane said it is believed that the driver ramped the island on William Nicol Drive before crashing into the Mitsubishi and Mazda vehicles.

Mamonyane said Mhere and another female passenger, who was sitting in the back-seat of the vehicle, were killed in the collision and another male passenger was taken to Helen Joseph Hospital for treatment.

Mamonyane said a case of culpable homicide and negligence would probably be opened against the driver of the VW Polo. The driver was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
