No service delivery from City Power

BRYANSTON - A Ward 103 substation along Bryanston Drive is home to a homeless man who has angered residents by continuously leaving the area in ruins.

One of the concerned residents, Mike Thomas, said complaints have been logged with City Power and nothing had been done about the matter.

The substation is located in-between Green and Brooke streets in Bryanston. Not only is the substation vandalised, but the security of the area has been compromised. Ward 103 councillor, Vincent Earp said, “The substation is not secure; the gates are open as well as the doors to the substation.”

Earp also said he alerted officials last year in December about correcting the problem and nothing has been achieved. “It is so frustrating when entities do not do their jobs properly,” explained Earp. “The area surrounding the substation is strewn with bottles and litter. Not only is it a health hazard, but it is a danger to the vagrant that is now living there. He could cause a fire or even be electrocuted.”

After Earp requested City Power’s assistance, he said he was promised that they would investigate and resolve the problem. He added, “This is not service delivery. It is non-delivery, zero service. Where are our residents’ rates and taxes going? Definitely not back into our suburbs.”

No comment was received from City Power by time of publication.
