Setting the scene for small business development

SANDTON - Government wants to position Small, Medium and Macro Enterprises (SMME) sector at the epicentre of the economic transformation agenda.

This according to the Minister of Small Business Development, Lindiwe Zulu who met up with the media for a brief on the Inaugural SMME Policy Colloquium which took place in Sandton.

“I’m here today because the outcomes that come from this colloquium will add to how the department will go forward,” said Zulu.

“It’s about the sharing of experiences. We are pulling all associates together.” She added that the country needed a programme that would talk to the state of SMME in South Africa.

“We need to tap into the specific areas of short- and long-term plans,” added Zulu. “You can’t run away from people with a master plan. We need more people to believe in this platform to grow the economy.”

Some of the issues that were discussed at the colloquium included the legislative and regulative environment, and setting the National Development Plan into action.
