Watch out for Highlands juniors
LINKSFIELD – Young soccer players take to the field before the season officially starts.
The juniors at Highlands Park Football Club cannot wait for the soccer season to start.
So much so, that the youngsters got together a few days before registration, which is on 28 January, to have a bit of fun on the field in Linksfield.
Debbie Ilouze, who runs the junior section with coach Mike Pavkokitch, boasted that the club’s U7 and U17 teams won both their leagues and cups last year, while the U9s won their league, and four other teams came second in their divisions of the Easterns League.
“But it is not only about winning,” she reflected while watching the youngsters play.
“Soccer for children is also about developing skills, the social side of things, learning discipline and teamwork and having fun.”
Ilouze said the Easterns League had proven to be competitive in recent years, and it is good for the children to learn to play at that standard. With skilled coaches and passionate youngsters, Ilouze believes the club will go from strength to strength in the years to come.
The junior section comprises teams from U6 to U17 level – boys as well as girls.
The club also caters for a Shabbas team for players who still want to play in the league, but not on the Sabbath.
Registration will take place between 9am and 12pm on the day.
