Emergency services encourages safety during icy temperatures

JOBURG – The city’s Emergency Management Services notes that residents can be warm while being safe this winter.

As the City of Johannesburg endures another cold front over the next few days, residents are urged to prioritise their safety when using heating devices.

The city’s Emergency Management Services notes that residents can be warm while being safe this winter.

Residents are encouraged observe the following guidelines:

– Regardless of the type of heater you have, keeping anything that can burn at least 1m away from the heating device.

– Never us a stove or oven to heat up your home.

– Do not leave heaters unattended, switch them off which you are leaving the room or going to sleep.

– Do not use heaters to dry clothing.

– Regularly check electrical wiring on heaters and do not use extension cords, multi-plugs or any devices with frayed wiring.
