The 2020 Feather Awards has definitely turned up the love.
With love being a huge need during these times, the much-anticipated nominee list was announced at Truffles on the Park in Sandown on 15 October.
The intimate affair saw an eclectic mix of attendees, personalities and individuals from different sectors strutting their stuff, each representing and inspiring the LGBTQI+ community in one way or another.
With a number of categories from Hot Chick of the Year to Diva Extraordinaire, the nominees were all dressed colourful and bright.
Hot Chick of the Year nominee and socialite, Blue Mbombo said that her nomination was unexpected. “I’m very excited, I wasn’t expecting this. I know that when I was invited I did suspect that I would be nominated but also I wasn’t sure in which category,” said Mbombo.
With the theme this year being ‘Turn Up the Love’, one of the favourite Feathers category Cutest Couple of The Year had nominees Nomsa Buthelezi and Zandile Shezi beaming with delight.
Buthelezi said, “I am so humbled and I am so happy. I just came here to mingle a little bit, so coming here and being nominated is so exciting and it was so unexpected. We are definitely taking it home.”
Co-founder of the Feather Awards, Thami Dish said these awards have evolved to an excellent display of LGBTQI advocacy activations. “With a slight delay in all festivities this year, we are turning up the love and looking to a positive future ahead in 2021.”
The awards will be held on 11 November in a closed ceremony in Johannesburg.
