Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra hosts special Valentine’s Day concert

The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra and Classic 1027 celebrate the opening of the 2020 Summer Season promising unforgettable evening performances with Valentine’s Day Variety Gala concerts on 12, 13 and 14 February.

This runs at the Linder Auditorium in Parktown, starting at 7pm according to the organisers.

“We are proud to showcase our World Symphony Series 2020 Summer Season with a spectacular line-up of international talent and a leading South African soloist, who will join us in taking the experience of concert-going in the City of Johannesburg,” said artistic director and chief executive, Bongani Tembe.

“Classic 1027 is honoured to partner with The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Our values and aims are aligned and the synergy between our efforts will ensure that audiences are exposed to the world’s most beautiful music through live concerts showcasing brilliant talent. The Valentine’s Variety Gala is a romantic concert which we aim to make an annual favourite Valentine’s Day romantic outing,” said acting general manager of Classic 1027, Lance Rothschild.

The orchestra’s Summer Season launches on a heady note with a special Valentine’s Day Variety Gala concerts being performed from Wednesday to Friday.

American maestro William Eddins shares the spotlight with two guest soloists, the Montenegrin guitarist Goran Krivokapic and the gifted young South African soprano, Zandile Mzazi, performing a richly curated repertoire of romantic favourites by Berlioz, Rodrigo, Mascagni, Massenet, Khachaturian, Verdi, Lehar and Tchaikovsky.
