MELROSE– Afrikaans actor Pietie Beyers tells us about his new film Vergeet my Nie.

If you’re in the mood for a purely local South African love story then you’re in luck! Vergeet my Nie is the perfect love story of ‘boy meets girl’ but with a twist. The Rosebank Killarney Gazette sat down with one of the actors from the film, Pietie Beyers.

He shared with us some of his favourite moments on set, a bit about his character in the film and the things he loves most about being a Melrose resident.

Now in his 30s, Beyers is also a writer, producer and entrepreneur. At the moment he is working on a podcast called So Loop Hy Maar, Die Lewe en So. We can also look forward to seeing him in two new feature films, Meisies Wat Fluit and Wesens which will be released later this year.

“I’m a Golden Retriever acting as a human being, with my talent I want to make people laugh and so the continuous hustle of auditioning and making stuff happen is always on the go,” he said.

His movie Skemerson which he co-produced and starred in premiered last year. It was inspired by his own experience and struggle with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

His role as Dieter in Vergeet my Nie is light and cheerful.

“I play Dieter, the cousin of Hugo Derks. A stern chap looking for someone to unlock the joyous boy inside. This true story was filmed in South Africa, Namibia and London and it promises to warm your heart,” said Beyers.

One of his favourite things about being a part of it was bonding with all the people involved.

Having been in the entertainment industry for a few years now, Beyers would like to see more kindness in the world. When he is not playing different roles on our TV screens he is thinking about his favourite hangout spot in the world – Davies Pool in Onrus in the Western Cape.

Beyers has always been a people’s person and trusted in the good of the universe. “Ever since I stopped doing maths homework in Grade 8, I think I blindly (perhaps unconsciously) trusted that things would somehow work out. Naive faith and lots of self-discovery later, I’ve been propelled towards ‘the business of human connection’.”

His favourite thing about living in Melrose is being able to speak Zulu, English and Afrikaans when he steps outside and all in one trip.
