Enjoy a performance by the National Youth Orchestra in Parkwood

PARKWOOD – Classical music lovers are in for a treat on 13 December when the South African National Youth Orchestra performs live at Jan Celliers Concert Hall.

Community members are invited to enjoy music performed by the National Youth Orchestra at Jan Celliers Concert Hall in Parkwood on 13 December from 7pm.

The concert will include favourites such as Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 and rarely performed works such as the Noëls by French composer Louis-Claude Daquin. They will contrast the old with some newer works by Philip Glass and the Penguin Cafe Orchestra. The ensemble will be led by continuo players John Reid Coulter and Erik Dippenaar who will be joined by two members of the world-famous Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra from Amsterdam.

Student at the University of the Free State Jabuy Sesing said, “I’d love the audience to experience the joy and excitement of the music we play.”

The National Youth Orchestra seeks to nurture the musical development of South Africa’s finest young musicians from emerging gifted school-age learners to those on the verge of a professional career. The orchestra’s alumni have been placed in some of the best orchestras in the world and they make up 70 per cent of the South Africans placed in our local professional orchestras.

Tickets for the concert are R150 and R100 for concessions and can be booked on Quicket. Every ticket contributes to the musical education of the orchestra members with additional collections done on the night towards the orchestra’s bursary fund for 2020.
