Join the Christmas spirit at Melrose Arch

MELROSE ARCH – Save the date for the switching-on of the Christmas lights at Melrose Arch.

Residents are invited to get into the Christmas spirit by visiting Melrose Arch on 22 November to see the switching-on of the ever-dazzling Christmas lights while enjoying the music of Mi Casa and the Mzansi Youth Choir.

This year’s switching-on of the lights ceremony will begin at 6.30pm with the popular musicians building momentum until Melrose Arch managing director Mike Vermaak turns on the enchanting lights.

All proceeds from the Destination Christmas celebration at Melrose Arch will go to the Smile Foundation, which is the venue’s Corporate Social Investment partner.

Visitors can wander around and enjoy the lights before heading to the new fantasy garden, which will comprise of four smaller gardens, each one fantastical and whimsical with its own theme. Designed by well-known landscapers, there will be an arid water-wise garden, a more traditional green landscape, a vertical display and a bushveld-style garden in partnership with the Boucher Legacy, an organisation that fights rhino poaching. Beautiful during the day, the gardens will be even more enchanting when they are lit-up at night.

A Christmas market will also be held on the square from 27 November to 30 November from 4pm to 9pm offering Christmas décor, gifts, handcrafted items, food, clothing, homeware and more.

The well-known Jeppe Pipe Band will also return to Melrose Arch, on 6 December at 6.30pm, playing favourites such as Scotland the Brave, Jingle Bells, Amazing Grace and Little Drummer Boy.

Santa Claus will also make appearances whenever an event takes place (22 November, 27–30 November and 6 December).

Vermaak said, “Christmas is a special time of the year, especially for families, and Melrose Arch is pleased to be able to help make the festive season a memorable one. We’ve pulled out all the stops to make this year’s Destination Christmas truly spectacular and we look forward to welcoming the people of Gauteng to our safe, beautifully-decorated precinct.”

Events are free of charge.
