Series inspires women, one woman at a time

HOUGHTON – This month marked the launch of the Inspire Women event series at The Houghton Hotel.

Host and public speaker Lee Den Hond wanted to create a platform of pure inspiration with this series. An overall inspiration herself, Den Hond is an author too. Her book, What happens when you say yes, has inspired women to be more open to saying ‘yes’, to influence growth, and she is currently the third South African woman to summit Mount Everest. The series comes as no surprise. “It wasn’t a fundraiser but a notable conference. It was amazing women inspired by other amazing women. It was purely to motivate the ladies,” said Den Hond.

“When we look at the speaker lineup, we were bold in our approach and we just wanted to include something for everyone!” Influential speakers, journalist Devi Govender of Carte Blanche, wellness and fitness guru Lisa Raleigh and sex expert Dr Eve gave their insights on what it means to be a woman in South Africa and how to own it. Den Hond added, “In terms of the invitees they were also encouraged to bring along a woman who inspired them. We wanted the unexpected and we really wanted to look at the event with a holistic approach.

“We welcomed Devi as very inspirational through her craft, Lisa Raleigh told us about all things wellness and Dr Eve spoke about a very important topic for a lot of women which are relationships and intimacy. “We didn’t want it to be political; we wanted ladies feeling extremely inspired from this host of speakers.

It was a feel-good setting to stimulate growth. A real experience for women to walk away feeling inspired and motivated to make significant changes. We were definitely motivated and changed some of our bad habits too!” This was just the launch. Den Hond indicated that the next one will take place next year and promises to be something South Africa has not experienced yet.

“Our vision is very big, it will take place more than once a year; we’re looking at making it a global event with a host of features such as a radio channel and TV channel. “Expect amazing mornings of fun, value, entertainment, inspiration and always expect the unexpected.” Her aim is to create a movement of inspiring women for future generations, while pushing an independent brand and making it grow in these trying times.

“You know with the current state of South Africa, the plight against women abuse is high and it’s very easy to just focus on the negative and this is why there is a need for this Inspire Women series. “The role of women in a society is to always show strength but not only show it but be it and always always keep to the notion of having to be empowered in order to empower. “So many inspirational women in one room will cause a ripple effect and create Host and public speaker Lee Den Hond.
