Free Jazz on the Lake event welcomes community to appreciate live music

PARKVIEW – Organisers anticipate over 18 000 people to attend the event on 1 September.

 


Community members can look forward to the 27th annual Jazz on the Lake event at Zoo Lake from 10am to 5pm on 1 September.

The free event which ushers in the new season in style offers an interesting mix of pure jazz, afro-jazz, R&B and afropop music.

Some of the artists to look forward to including Vusi Nova, Bucie, Ami Faku, Tamy Moya from Zimbabwe, Michel Herrera and Band from Cuba and Afrika Mkhize with TRC.

The event which seeks to level the divides of race, class and age, encourages intergenerational families to attend and enjoy the soothing sounds of jazz while enjoying a picnic.

Media liaison for Arts Alive Thula Cube said, “It’s a City event that is free, bringing high-quality diverse music from international to local artists to the people of Jozi and it’s one of the longest-running events.

“It’s a very special event produced for the community and it introduces people to high-quality, world-class music which caters for diverse tastes and encourages an appreciation of live music.”

Residents living in the area have been informed about the event and its road closures through various residents associations.

“Music levels will be within appropriate range as per health and safety within residential areas,” said Cube.

Roads surrounding Zoo Lake will be closed, however, concertgoers are encouraged to make use of the various free park-and-ride services on offer. Park and rides will make use of Metro buses from Braamfontein, Marks Park in Emmarentia and Killarney Mall between 9am and 7.30pm. The last bus to the event will leave at 3pm. Buses will take people back to the various venues until 7.30pm.
