Electrifying Peugeot 2008 due in 2020

Due in early 2020, the Peugeot 2008 SUV will offer 100% electric, petrol and diesel powertrains as part of its the ‘choose your PEUGEOT, choose your powertrain’ philosophy.

Launching with three trim levels, Active, Allure and GT Line, the latter will feature full LED rear lights and 18-inch diamond cut aluminium wheels with colour inserts. The new 2008 measures in at 4.3m long and 1.7m wide will standing 1.54m tall and were developed on the new Common Modular Platform. The interior features black trim with Adamite colour stitching, mood lighting with a choice of 8 RGB LED colours, dynamic seats and aluminium pedals.

Also available for the driver is the Peugeot 3D i-Cockpit which features a new head-up display projecting information in hologram form. Depending on the trim level, the French automaker includes a 10-inch touchscreen display on the centre console which enables you to use the TomTom navigation system, MirrorScreen, MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and the FOCAL 10-speaker sound system.

Drivers will have access to Drive Assist which includes lane departure warnings and assists with lane positioning, in partnership with the Adaptive Cruise Control will result in semi-autonomous driving. The 2008 also comes fitted with full park assist, automatic emergency brake assist, driver attention monitoring, Smartbeam automatic headlight dipping, active blind spot monitoring and an electric parking brake.

In addition to the options of 1.2-litre three-cylinder PureTech petrol and the 1.5-litre four-cylinder BlueHDi diesel engines, the Peugeot e-2008 will be 100% electric powered. The 100 kW electric motor and 50kWh battery will achieve a range of 310km. Capable of rapid charging, an 80% charge will take just 30 minutes and switching the “B” drive mode will also charge your battery with regenerative braking as you lift off the accelerator.

While Peugeot pledge to have an electric variant added to its entire range by 2023, South Africa can expect the first 2008’s to reach the country by 2020 with pricing to be revealed closer to the time.
