All-female musical showcases talent at Joburg Jewish Women’s Theatre

JOHANNESBURG – The cast and crew have embraced this experience with great joy, professionalism and a sense of community.

The Power of Song, a Jewish musical production and adaptation of the well-loved Sound of Music, will be staged from 13 to 19 June.

The show, produced by the Joburg Jewish Women’s Theatre, is brought to life with singing, dancing and acting, as lead character Ashira introduces music to the seven children in the Hersch family.

The production stars talented women, including the renowned Helen Heldenmuth, who is sure to entertain in her role as Aunt Dina.

“The play is a wonderful opportunity for women to showcase their performing abilities with an all-female cast to a female-only audience,” said director Linda Zulberg.

“Drama transmits messages in a powerful way, and while the show is really entertaining, there are profound themes and messages within. We hope that The Power of Song will unite and inspire the community.”

Zulberg is working with Malky Gordon and Rachaeli Stromberg, the production managers, and an enthusiastic cast and crew to bring the production to life.

The dancing is magnificently choreographed by Marise Mishan and Leanne Duek, and the exceptional singers are coached by Tal Jankelowitz, Michael Levy and Daniella Winer.

The cast and crew have embraced this experience with great joy, professionalism and a sense of community, said Zulberg.

“Each of the ‘children’ of the Hersch family is a graduate or a present scholar at seven different schools in our community, all singing and dancing harmoniously together. This in itself is a wonderful uniting force in the production.”

A portion of the proceeds will go to the DL Link in recognition of the incredible service they provide.

To book, WhatsApp 081 459 6078. Performances will take place on 13, 17, 18 and 19 June at 7.30pm.
