Rental amounts in JHB’s most prestigious suburbs

The price of property for sale in Johannesburg varies from area to area, and with the difficult financial situation currently many people are looking at rentals. However, we take a look at some of the suburbs that top the list in regard to monthly rental prices, which could just scare you off!

Navigating property for sale in Johannesburg can seem fairly daunting, and for this reason many people will opt to rent a space first before deciding to settling down.

At present, the financial situation in South Africa also has people a little nervous about committing to long-term debts, and with landlords being unable to really push up their prices, renting could seem like the perfect option.

In this case, you may be looking at rentals to save costs, but there is a luxury rental market that boasts prices that could make your eyes water. Experts have revealed that dealings at this upper end of the market have slowed, but there are still numerous individuals and businesses willing to pay the asking price.

To showcase how drastically different these prices are, we take a look at the median rental prices listed by Private Property from data pulled in the month of July 2018. In Gauteng, the average price of rental was R9000. This price was lower than the averages in both KwaZulu-Natal (R9500) and the Western Cape (R13 500).

Moving to the prices in Johannesburg’s most prestigious suburbs, this is what you can expect to pay when rubbing shoulders with the business elite:

  • Dainfern Valley: R45 000
  • Inanda: R40 000
  • Melrose Arch: R33 000
  • Fourways Gardens: R32 000
  • Woodhill: R30 000

It was interesting to note that Gauteng had five suburbs in the top 10 list produced by Private Property. Dainfern Valley shared top spot with the Waterfront 1 in the Western Cape, with the Mother City boasting four suburbs in the top 10. The only other province to feature on the list was KwaZulu-Natal, with the suburb of Zimbali featuring in 9th place.
