DJ Collect promises a new twist in the SA music industry

NEWTOWN – The organisers welcome any support to enable upcoming and deserving music artists a platform to be recognised.

South African music artist and entertainer David Malibe will wow his audience at the upcoming music awards to be held in Johannesburg at the Market Theatre stage on 1 June.

The sixth annual awards will be hosted in Newtown by South African Upcoming Music Awards (Sauma), a movement that recognises rare talent in the local music industry.

Malibe, also known as DJ Collect, is one of the many that are expected to perform at the awards and maybe even walk away with one of the prestigious prizes.

David Malibe, also known as DJ Collect, is expected to perform at the annual South African Upcoming Music Awards in June and a nomination list is already out for artists who wish to enter for the prestigious awards.

The house music maestro from Soshanguve, but originally born in Soweto, Johannesburg, has promised a show never to be missed.

The former street vendor is not new to these award ceremonies and said he is looking forward to another great performance in less than five months’ time.

He said the audience can expect an energetic performance on that evening adding that he has a huge surprise for his fans.

“I’ll be launching my new album so people can expect nothing but an energetic show full of exciting performance for all music fanatics,” he said.

“I’m looking forward to this event because I have great plans to appease my music fans. I did it before at the Soweto Theatre stage last year and I believe this time it will be more exciting considering that I’ve collaborated with some of the best artists in South Africa and the continent.”

The DJ has collaborated with Sauma’s founder and music guru DJ V.Neck as well as a Namibian contemporary music group Tsavazi’s in some of the songs – he will be performing some of the songs.

Lerato Mabuza, Sauma’s chief operations officer, confirmed that DJ Collect is one of the artists who will be performing at their sixth annual awards.

Mabuza said they expect a great performance from him because they’re aware of what a talented artist he is from his previous performance at the awards. “We are truly excited to have him again at the awards to grace the stage and appease our guests on that evening.

“He is truly gifted and he plays good music and what we like most about him is that he’s passionate about his music.”

Mabuza has also announced that a list of nominees is already out since 16 January and she encourages local artists to enter for the awards.

She said they will also hold the inaugural Namibian Upcoming Music Awards adding that it is the first of its kind on Mzansi stage.
