Shop and support local charities at the Parkview Christmas Market

PARKVIEW – Proceeds from the market will be given to the Nicarela Charity.

Support local charities while doing your Christmas shopping at the 12th annual Parkview Charity Christmas Market at the George Hay Park in Parkview from 30 November to 1 December.

The market attracts over 10 000 people over the weekend who come along to shop from the 100 craft stalls and be entertained. Favourites include the champagne and oyster bar, trendy gin bar and casual beer tent. A monitored children’s zone will also be available where children up to the age of 12 can enjoy a variety of fun activities including sand art, face painting, temporary tattoos, crafts, train rides and more.

Local schools and pop singer Cindy Alters is scheduled to entertain the crowds.

Proceeds from the market will go to 30 projects that fall under Nicarela including a soup kitchen, abused women and children centres, a home for the elderly, HIV support groups and bursaries for the attendance of local schools.

Marketing manager for the event Bridget von Holdt said, “The community should support this because a child goes to bed hungry, a young child can’t afford schooling, a nursery school needs a classroom, an orphanage is running out of food… There is always someone who needs to get through a crisis and Nicarela, through this initiative, is able to assist with the help of communities.”

Last year, the market managed to raise R900 000 for Nicarela and they hope to raise 10 per cent more this year.

The market opens on Friday between 3pm and 10pm, on Saturday from 10am to 10pm and Sunday between 10am and 4pm. Snapscan and Zapper will be available at the market.

Entries cost R50 for adults, R80 for a weekend pass and children under 12 can enter free.
