Local food and hand-made crafts at Greenside Market

GREENSIDE – Check out the new market at Pirates Club every Saturday.

After working as a market vendor for nine years, David Sanei decided it was time to start his own market – this time in Greenside.

The Greenside Market opened on 11 August at the Pirates Club, offering a variety of stalls ranging from arts and design to food and children’s entertainment all laid out on the lush green lawn.

“I got the idea to use Pirates Club as a venue after working at the Jozi Food Market for a number of years. It has been a battle to start because of poor weather, but there has been a good flow of stallholders and traders and we are trying to build momentum,” said Sanei.

Market manager Robyn Baartman spoke to the Rosebank Killarney Gazette during the second Saturday of the market. “David and his wife Ristha saw the gap in the area and decided to open up the market. We take pride in our vendors and keep our food as close to home-made and local as possible. We want to promote local products made for South Africans,” said Baartman.

She added that all the stores are equipped with card machines and snap scans.

Visit the market from 8.30am to 2pm every Saturday.
