Sky Salange flies solo at exhibition

PARKHURST– A Zimbabwean artist exhibited his work at the Guns and Rain art gallery.

Guns and Rain art gallery was graced by experienced Zimbabwean artist Sky Salanje in Parkhurst on 19 May.

Salanje, whose passion lies in portraiture, travelled all the way from Harare for his art exhibition The Neighbourhood’s Eye and gallerist, founder and director of Guns and Rains, Julie Taylor was very excited about having the painter showing off his work solo for the first time in South Africa.

Taylor expressed, “Sky Salanje is a prolific portraitist who works really hard. His paintings of the people around him reflect on many aspects of Zimbabwean society, ranging from gender to religion to economics, as well as on individual personalities and the quirks of human nature.

“We were delighted to present his work at the new Guns and Rain space in Parkhurst.”

Born in 1992 in Mutare, Zimbabwe, Salanje has exhibited widely through Zimbabwe’s leading exhibition platforms including Gallery Delta, First Floor Gallery Harare and the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. He has also exhibited with Guns and Rain at the Turbine Art Fair and in group shows in Johannesburg. He holds a certificate in Fine Arts from the National Gallery of Zimbabwe Visual Art Studio.

“It was my first-ever visit to Johannesburg, as well as my first solo in South Africa, and I came to Joburg especially for the opening. It has been very exciting to see my work exhibited in this beautiful gallery space, and of course, I was proud to share the news with family and friends at home in Harare and Masvingo,”

Guns and Rain works with emerging artists from across southern Africa and has a new permanent space in Parkhurst.
