Don’t miss Verheul at Rotary Arts Fest

ROSEBANK – Cathy Verheul has donated a painting to Rosebank Killarney Gazette, where a lucky reader could stand a chance to win the painting.

Cathy Verheul has donated her outstanding painting, Dance of the Maiden, to Rotary Arts Festival media partners, Rosebank Killarney Gazette.

This will form part of an exciting forthcoming promotion the paper will have at this event. Verheul, who paints unique portraits and landscapes, will be at the Rotary Arts Festival this year at Rosebank Mall where she will showcase 15 of her works, and art enthusiasts can definitely add one of them to their collection.

Previously an illustrator for children’s books and a newspaper cartoonist, she now shares her talents with others and teaches five times a week. Classes consist of painting and drawing techniques, with two sessions for children and three for adults.

When asked where her passion comes from, Verheul mentioned that people, in general, are her major source of inspiration. “I can sit for hours studying people’s eyes to see their emotions and hearing about their different backgrounds and life stories.”

She then mentioned that once the inspiration starts, it can take a few days, but once the idea finally hits, it could take her 20 to 60 hours to complete a project. Her favourite painting is that of Advocate George Bizos.

“It’s important to find out more about the subject before embarking on a new portrait.

“When I visited George Bizos at his office, we chatted for hours about his life and compassion for human rights. This special time with him provided an ideal moment near the end to capture a fleeting look of passion combined with a touch of resignation.”

You can view this touching portrait of George Bizos together with over 1 000 artworks at the forthcoming Rotary Arts Festival at Rosebank Mall from 31 May until 10 June.
