VIDEO: Talented and humble musical sensation, Mykyle, talks about his inspirations and aspirations

ROSEBANK – Mykyle is a young, talented aspirational rapper and pop singer, who hopes that one day, he can top the SA music charts.

A pop singer, a rapper and beatmaker, Mykyle Samuel said he wishes that one day, he can share a stage with some of the industry’s heavyweights like Cassper Nyovest and Emtee.

This 16-year-old realised he wanted to venture into music from a very young age that he cannot even remember the exact time.

“When I was young, it was a dream I had but I didn’t know where it would end. But when I was young, I started going to studio sessions and when I was 11, I made a decision that it was a proper dream that I wanted to chase.”

See her, is the only song that he has ever released and it has been played on national radio a few times, but Mykyle admits that the music industry is challenging to break into.

He said imagining himself in a situation helps his creativity and that he would like to release as many songs as he can but it is not always rosy on the financial front.

“If you don’t have a friend in the game, it’s so hard to break into but I am meeting people based on my talent. There are too many big artists in SA when it comes to bookings and there is a lengthy waiting list at the radio stations. That can be avoided if only you’re an already established artist.”

Mykyle, whose favourite subject is maths, is home-schooled. One of the reasons he switched to home-schooling, was that he wanted to pursue his music career further, without having to flunk out of high school. He finds time to manoeuvre his way between the two.”I want to be the best and that is my goal. I want to carry it until I have made my mark as an artist,” he said and added, “I want to keep doing music until I’m 40.”

His best highlight was when he was at a show in East London, where recognisable rappers were performing and he was there for an opening act.

“It was a huge stadium but the stadium didn’t fill up. When we came on, there was a huge buzz and people moved closer to watch us. Some people who had performed before us didn’t get such a great response. I was shocked. Bonang Matheba also congratulated me and gave me a hug.”

Mykyle has also had promises of collaborations with famous rappers and hopes that one day, they can mentor him and this is how he is planning to become the next big thing.
