The weekend is upon us once again and it’s time for us to recoup and gather our energies. Is there a better way to refresh from a tough week than to have fun in the city? Surely not!

check our top things to do in Joburg this weekend.

  1. Friday the 13th at The Bioscope

There’s no better way to celebrate Friday the 13th than catching a scary movie with your friends. And the scary movie The Bioscope had in mind – Friday The 13th of course! Enjoy a movie where a whole bunch of people get “ticked off the list” one by one in true 80s horror style. And let’s not forget to mention a starring role of a younger Kevin Bacon. Never seen the movie? Well, you can expect a movie about a group of camp counsellors that are stalked and murdered by an unknown assailant while trying to reopen a summer camp which was the site of a child’s drowning many years before.

2. Mad Giant Bottomless Beer Day

Craft beer lovers can try not only the limited edition Crypto colab double IPA, but also the diverse range of craft beers produced by Mad Giant. The Mad Giant guarantees an afternoon of fine socializing, some Mad Giant Beer Pong games and fantastic beer and invites all beer drinkers to savour the Asian street food experience provided by Urbanoligi, the restaurant within the brewery. They also have an inner city DJ spinning tunes to keep things upbeat.

3. The Joburg Ballet Carmen

A story about love, passion, and betrayal set in southern Spain, this version of Bizet’s classic is choreographed by leading South African choreographer Veronica Paeper with live orchestral accompaniment from the newly relaunched Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. This is one event to look forward to.

4. Harmonia: Sacred Geometry, the pattern of existence

Gordon Froud’s exhibition which is open to the public until 15 June investigates aspects of sacred geometry and includes more than 100 pieces that range from small-scale crystal glass works to a monumental 6.5m high polyhedron made from 18 giant road cones. Check it out at the Standard Bank Gallery
