Robin Auld releases Mama Afrika

JOHANNESBURG – Renowned South African singer/songwriter Robin Auld is back with a fantastic new single.

Mama Afrika was recorded in collaboration with Johannesburg-based Brenthurst Foundation and was written by its director Dr Greg Mills.

The launch of the single follows two years of field research across Africa by the Brenthurst Foundation, which culminated in the book, Making Africa Work. According to the co-author of the book, Greg Mills, the lessons of the book are not just for policymakers and other officials, they are for every citizen of Africa.

“We wanted to write a song that encapsulated the findings of the book and communicated these to a wider audience in a fun and digestible way. First and foremost, Robin Auld’s music has ensured Mama Afrika is great to listen to. But it also contains important messages which we hope can contribute towards creating a more prosperous and fairer continent,” said Mills.

Having released twenty albums to date and collaborated with the likes of Johnny Clegg, Wendy Oldfield, Louis Mhlanga, Schalk Joubert and Hilton Schilder, Auld is no stranger to political activism through the use of music.

“Music has always been a great equalizer and an effective tool for getting across strong messages. Mama Afrika was written not just to depict the challenges Africa faces, but also to provide solutions and bring an underlying message of peace and unity. I’m honoured to be part of this project and to be able to spread the message of Making Africa Work a little wider through the single,” said Auld

Over the past few months, Auld has been travelling across Africa and Europe performing the song not only to fans and the public, interested in Africa but presidents, prime ministers, archbishops and CEOs.
