Hook, line and sinker

JOBURG – "If you watch for a bloody good laugh at some guys just having fun with a hobby of theirs, well, you are in for a treat."

The hit show Fishing Impossible is back with bigger fish, bigger excitement, and even more dangerous locations.

Season 2 promises to have the most unbelievable excursions, so much so, that the only way to believe it, is to see it for yourself. This season the team got a taste of the crocodile-infested rivers of Zambia, the Himalayas and also searched for monsters in the freezing Iceland Atlantic.

“Portugal is a beast, as is Iceland! We set ourselves some pretty silly targets. But, that is half the fun of it,” said Tom ‘The Blowfish’ Hird, a marine biologist.

Team member Charlie Butcher said to be able to pull off such adventures, some of the greatest angling challenges require a level of dedication and application that simply can’t be achieved by one man alone.

He explained that in order to catch some of the greatest fish on the planet, you need a team.

“We each have individual skills and when you combine all of these you have a formidable team. Jay Lewis is an ex-Royal Marine, providing essential skills when the journey starts to get rough. Blowfish is a marine biologist and he provides a unique view of the species we are trying to catch. Basically, he gets us thinking like a fish,” Butcher explains.

The show is packed with adrenaline-fuelled antics and lots of friendly rivalries.

“I’m meant to be the fishing expert and whilst I definitely bring that to the table, in series 1 I sometimes get robbed of the glory by Jay. However, in series 2 that is all going to change,” said Butcher.

This is not a hunt to kill kind of adventure, but rather an educational exploit for those interested in fishing.

“If you are watching this show for the latest tips and tricks on how to land that perfect carp, best skip on. If you watch for a bloody good laugh at some guys just having fun with a hobby of theirs, well, you are in for a treat,” explained Hird.

The show debuted on 27 August 2017 and will air weekly on BBC Earth (DStv channel 184). See DStv Guide for more details.
