Turbine Art Fair covers art, music and food in 2017

JOBURG – The Turbine Art Fair, this year, is looking to evoke all five senses during your art experience.

In its fifth year, this year, the Turbine Art Fair (TAF) is back and better than ever.

Why is this year’s fair better than before? Well, instead of only indulging your visual sense with the range of amazing art on show – and available for purchase – organisers are also going to indulge your other four senses with delicious food, smells, art pieces with great textures, and most of all the sounds of music and joy that are sure to permeate throughout the Turbine Hall.

MAKING ART: Artists show and talk about how art is made at the Turbine Art Fair.

“This is the fifth year and we actually started [TAF] on a whim. The first time we did it, I actually didn’t think anyone would come. So we thank the people who came and the ones that come every year and we’re really excited about what’s on offer this year,” said Glynis Hyslop, director of the fair.

From 14 to 16 July, with the opening night on 13 July, this must-attend fair will take place in Newtown. The fair aims to activate all five senses. It will also allow new and emerging artists to be seen by the public as well as collectors on a large scale. The fair will also give everyone access to the artworks of artists old and new.

ARTIST’S TIME: Artist Proof Studio, a Johannesburg-based artist studio will exhibit the works of their artists.

“The real mission of the fair is to grow young emerging artists. You can’t actually do that without developing some form of market, and so that’s what we’re doing here. Art makes one’s soul sing.”

This year there will be more than 50 galleries and exhibitors showing their best works at the fair. With a low R50 000 cap on art prices, organisers of the show are hoping to get more non-collectors interested in art and show the public that art is accessible to everyone.

FOODIE FUN: Turbine Art Fair (TAF) pasta is made by The Forum Company, especially for the exciting fair.

There will also be a number of talks and walkabouts during the fair, a feature that will allow each person who signs up to get a deeper understanding of art, techniques, collecting, and even a talk for the kids which will hopefully ignite the spirit of admiring or creating art in them.

Don’t miss TAF17, which is set to be filled with divine tastes, smells, sights, great sounds and even some great art to touch – now in a safe and cashless environment.
