A dance collaboration created for the ages by Joburg Ballet in Braamfontein

BRAAMFONTEIN – Joburg Ballet takes on a unique dance collaboration.

Joburg Ballet will collaborate with two other leading South African dance companies on a major new production titled Big City, Big Dreams.

Moving Into Dance Mophatong and Vuyani Dance Theatre are two notable dance companies based in Johannesburg which will team up with Joburg Ballet to open Big City, Big Dreams on 28 July for its world premiere at Joburg Theatre.

Celebrated actress and director, Fiona Ramsay is working with a creative team drawn from the three companies to develop a ballet inspired by the dynamic energy and pulse of Johannesburg – big dreams set against the backdrop of South Africa’s biggest city.

Ramsay and local choreographers will tell the story of a young man who steps confidently onto the first steps of the Joburg corporate ladder, only to discover an unexpected and fascinating new window into the world of dance opening before him.

Unfolding in scenes that showcase the exhilaration of South African dance, Big City, Big Dreams fuses styles, from classical ballet to contemporary and street dance, combining high-powered techniques with vibrant emotion.

This show captures the essence of Johannesburg and the emotions felt by many who have come to the big city to pursue their dreams and careers – a feeling experienced by the masses and therefore a perfect story which can be related to by most.

This show will run until 6 August, so don’t miss out on it.
