New local comedy set to hit the big screen

JOBURG – Can you keep up with the Kandasamys?

A hilarious, new local comedy, Keeping up with the Kandasamys, will be screened on the big screen at Newtown Junction on 26 February.

The film, set in Chatsworth in KwaZulu-Natal, opens a window into the lifestyle and subculture of modern-day South African Indians and stars Jailoshini Naidoo and Maeshni Naicker, as the matriarchal rivals of neighbouring families whose young adult children become romantically involved, and despite their best efforts to keep them apart, are forced to acknowledge that love will always prevail.

The film was directed by Durban filmmaker, Jayan Moodley, co-written by Rory Booth and produced by the award-winning duo of Helena Spring and the late Junaid Ahmed.

“This film has something for everyone. The universal story of neighbourhood rivalry, our desperate need for acceptance and the climb for perceived societal success is something which touches everyone the world over. At the end of the day, we can all recognise our quirks and weaknesses and the funny side of the weird, wonderful and strangely competitive world we live in,” commented Moodley.

Keeping up with the Kandasamys will be released in cinemas nationwide on 3 March with bookings for the movie screenings opening on 22 February – limited tickets are available.

Tickets for the 12pm and 2pm preview shows on 26 February can be purchased via the Ster-Kinekor website.
