Speedcubing comes to South African shores

SANDOWN – The official Speedcubing Competition took place in Sandown on 27 November.

 

The World Cube Association brought the official Speedcubing Competition from the international circuit to South Africa.

The Rubik’s Cube-solving competition took place on 27 November at The Jewish Life Centre in Sandown and highlighted a performance by speedcubing master, Anthony Brooks from the USA, whose best cube-solving time is 6.42 seconds.

Brooks established the first Guinness World Record for solving five Rubik’s Cubes underwater in a single breath.

The official South African time record for solving the Rubik’s Cube is 9.81 seconds by Stephen Cotterrell.
