Books connect cultures

MELROSE – Two books of experiences showcased in one night at Melrose Arch.

Author Howard Feldman recently launched his second book entitled Tightrope at Melrose Arch.

This time it was book launch with a twist. Author Lerato Tshabalala was invited to also showcase her book entitled The way I see it. “This was done to show the comparisons but also to showcase the similarities in the way we see things in South Africa,” said Feldman.

He explained that his book tells the story of a country on the wire – a country that is trying its best to balance itself on a tiny rope and hoping for the best while trying not to fall over. “Ultimately, my intention for this book was to create an image of what South Africans have gone through. All South Africans essentially want the same thing. However, politicians work very hard to separate us,” he added.

Tshabalala’s book conveys a similar message, however, it touches on things like friendship, love, sex, beauty and class in South Africa.
Both authors sat down at the launch and engaged in conversation on how they see South Africa and what they have learned through the process of writing their books.
