Voice of Joburg: UJ student heads home

JOBURG – Students in the city are the voices of Joburg.

Making our way home, City Buzz came across a student who looked as if he would have an interesting story to tell.

Mohau Mahoa was walking down Simmonds Street in Braamfontein, carrying a large bag, and hastily walking to his intended destination.

Having asked the gentleman where he was off to, Mahoa responded, “I’m a student here in the city, at UJ [University of Johannesburg]. I’m studying electrical engineering there.”

City Buzz, curious about the large bag, was eager to find out what was inside – a question which he had been asked at a number of points during his journey. Mahoa laughed and explained, “It’s just clothes. It’s vacation time now so I’m just going home.

“I’m from Mpumalanga, around the Witbank area.”

Wondering why he didn’t choose a university closer to his home, City Buzz inquired about his university options. “I love Johannesburg. I mean, I really love this place. It is the city of dreams, so I just had to come here,” he said.

“It’s the lifestyle, the fashion, the people here. Everything here is really awesome.”

Eager to make his way to the train with his bag of clothes, Mahoa was quickly back on his way.
