Cara Frew is a singing and music-writing sensation and City Buzz wanted to find out more about this local talent.
Frew has already made a global name for herself, working with international artist Daniel Heath, before returning home to build her own career in music.
City Buzz had a question and answer session with the young star and learned more about her time in the limelight.
Q When did you start singing?
A I started singing at the age of 10, studied music and sung throughout school and continued to study music after matric, both in South Africa and Los Angeles.
Q What was it like to be a contestant on Idols?
A It was a stressful but awesome experience through which I grew tremendously. It also solidified the fact that singing was what I wanted to do as a career and it motivated me to work even harder.
Q What have you been doing since being on the show?
A I’ve been constantly improving myself as an artist. I studied at the Song Writing School of Los Angeles and studied voice, theory and piano at the Malie Kelly Vocal Academy in Joburg. I’ve collaborated with Black Coffee and joined him on the stage at Ultra Miami as well as other international and local festivals.
I’ve released two successful singles in South Africa that have topped the 5FM radio chart for a number of weeks and have just signed a worldwide deal with Sony Music Entertainment. My first single release with Sony, Only High With You, dropped on 28 October.
Q What are you working on at the moment?
A I’m currently working on promoting my latest single, Only High With You, as well as writing and recording my debut album.
Q What can we expect from you in the next year?
A You can expect a few more singles, many gigs coming up in Cape Town this summer season and my album release due first quarter of next year.
