Soniq set to go supersonic

KEW – Rising local hip-hop artist has a lot to offer in the South African music industry.

Dumisani Madiba, aka Soniq, is a hip-hop artist and songwriter with a unique talent.

His versatility and style set him apart as imaginative and creative with a firm grip on reality. His influences include the hip-hop greats he grew up listening to, and goes on to incorporate other genres such as rock ‘n’ roll, jazz, and funk.

Madiba, a Kew resident, recently released his highly anticipated Extended Play which contains 10 songs. He worked with artists and producers from all over South Africa; as well as various acts from Uganda, Nigeria, Holland and England for the EP.

His experience as a performer and musician comes from all the shows he’s done as a solo artist, with previous label affiliates (Aviator Music Group), and alongside his band, Jam on Toast.

“The fans, the people who connect with what you do – I am inspired by those people. That’s what motivates me because I know that there are people that believe in me,” he said.

His creative flows and intricate rhyme patterns always make for an interesting listen, and Soniq’s love, appreciation and knowledge of music are clearly brought out his work.

When asked about the future, Madiba said, “I want to be an international artist, because I feel like I make music of that calibre, and also locally to be able to go to as many places as possible.”

The newly released EP titled, The Time Traveller’s, can be streamed and downloaded from his website (www.soniqonline.co.za), or from his Soundcloud page (www.soundcloud.com/soniqonline).
