Mandoza continues fight against cancer
JOBURG – Music industry heavyweight fights for his life.
Mduduzi Tshabalala, better known by his stage name Mandoza, has been reported as being in a critical condition after being diagnosed with brain cancer.
The kwaito star, who brought us timeless hits such as Nkalakatha and Godoba, was diagnosed with cancer last year and fought the disease alone; not divulging his condition to family and friends at the time.
Now, approximately one year later, his wife has told Times Live, that his condition – after undergoing treatment – has spread to his brain.
The family released a statement regarding the condition of the singer.
“A great son of our Mzansi soil is in trouble. Mandoza Nkalakatha is fighting for his life after having cancer treatment in 2015. It has unfortunately metastasized to his brain. Doctors and medical staff are trying whatever they can and we are not giving up hope for his recovery.”
The family has also confirmed that Mandoza is currently fighting the condition at home, but no further information has been supplied.
This comes just five months after Mandoza confirmed to The Voice SA that he was, in fact, cancer-free in April.
The family has – in their statement – urged friends and fans to pray for the singer as he battles the illness.
