Ladysmith Black Mambazo comes to town

JOHANNESBURG - This September, die-hard fans can witness Ladysmith Black Mambazo's epic performance...

Grammy Award winners Ladysmith Black Mambazo is coming to the City of Gold to celebrate its 56th anniversary by wowing audiences in a special two-day-only concert at The Joburg Theatre on 11 and 12 September.

The show starts at 7pm on Saturday and 4pm on Sunday.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo first came together in the early 60s under the guidance of the sweet-voiced Joseph Shabalala.

The celebrated band is part of the time-honoured tradition of South African Zulu male choral music called isicathamiya, derived from the Zulu word meaning ‘to walk or step on one’s toes lightly’.

The legendary band released its first album in 1973 and has since produced more than 30 albums, including its highly successful collaboration on Paul Simon’s Graceland in 1986 – an album that was one of the best-selling albums of the 80s.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo has been nominated 16 times for Grammy Awards, taking home the honours on four occasions, as well as other countless other awards across the globe.

The Night of Legends Concert promises to be an exclusive and intimate two-day journey of non-stop nostalgia, taking the audience on a journey through the band’s many successes – both locally and abroad, spanning the last five decades.

Instantly recognisable hits like Homeless, Diamonds on the soles of her shoes, Nomathemba, Ofananaye, Lelilungelo, Phanse Emgodini and many others will provide a musical experience not to be missed.

Night of the Legends is an ultimate evening for die-hard fans as well as those who wish to experience one of South Africa’s biggest music success stories for the first time.
