Tweezy: A local producer to look our for

JOBURG – Tweezy produces music for well-known local musicians and sees his name in lights.

Durban-born muso, Tumelo Thandokuhle Mathebula, known by his fans as Tweezy, moved to Johannesburg at a young age where he attended a regular school.

But because of his obvious artistic talents, he was later recommended to attend the National School of Arts in Braamfontein.

Having studied visual arts in his final year, he also found a passion for using music software in his final years at school and grew that passion once he matriculated.

He joined a music group called Ghetto Prophecy after leaving school and, together with the other members, produced a song called Oh My which gained significant airplay and was ranked number 16 on the top 40 Songs of YFM.

The song opened doors for the group, but they split up and went their separate ways. This is when Tweezy decided to venture into the music industry as a music producer.

His solo journey officially took off in 2013 when he started producing for musicians such as the Fraternity and E-Jay, and in 2014 produced AKA’s Run Jozi. Their musical chemistry also resulted in the release of Sim Dope and All Eyes On Me, both of which charted number one locally on the South African Electronic Music Africa Charts.

In 2014, he also received his first nomination for producer of the year at the SA Hip-hop awards. He carried on to produce hits and was nominated for producer of the year once again in 2015 and won the award. Tweezy was also named 2015 producer of the year by Hype Magazine.

Since then there have been many other collaborations and he has worked with the likes of some influential South African musicians including Chad da Don, Speedsta, L-Tido and Cassper Nyovest, to name a few.

Now, he has produced his first solo single, titled Ambition, and it is blowing up on the music charts.

With so many tracks to his credit and so many accomplishments under his belt, Tweezy is one producer that you should definitely look out for.
