Chinsamy has big plans for Ward 73

ORANGE GROVE – ANC candidate for Ward 73 promises massive changes if voted to power in the upcoming local government elections.

The African National Congress (ANC) candidate for Ward 73 for the upcoming local government elections has big plans for the area.

Rosslin Chinsamy, who has been living in Orange Grove for 14 years, said she has been witnessing and has personal experience of the daily problems of crime, drugs, prostitution and overcrowding in the ward and also the inactivity of the authorities to act decisively to remedy the crisis.

“I have realised that some areas in Ward 73, like Orange Grove, have been neglected to decay and this is when I decided to intervene, as a mother and community worker, to try and change our conditions of life,” she said.

She was elected to the Branch Executive Committee of the ANC’s Ward 73 John Nkadimeng Branch in September 2014. Chinsamy is also the ANC branch co-ordinator for the ANC Women’s League for Ward 73 and is involved in forums whereby women and youth group interests are promoted and encouraged.

“I have a vested [interest] in making a change so that we can restore pride and dignity to our residents, hence my decision to stand for the position as ward councillor,” expresses Chinsamy.

Local government elections are held every five years to elect councillors who will be responsible for governing a municipality. Municipal councils are responsible for services that impact the daily lives of citizens in their areas, including water, electricity and sanitation.

Last year, Chinsamy was elected by the community of Ward 73 as a Ward Committee member in charge of infrastructure and development. “During my time in charge of this portfolio I have been overseeing the local projects in our ward.

“I have also been instrumental in ensuring that local labour is offered work and business opportunities in these community-based projects, and will continue to fight for the people of our ward so that they will not be disadvantaged,” she explained.
