MULTIMEDIA: Music landscape looks promising for Thusga

JOBURG – Young hip-hop artists on the rise, following release of his new song..

Award-winning hip-hop artist, Mothusi Somoro, popularly known as Thusga, is full of hunger and determination in his quest to claim his spot in the music industry.

Having grown up in the North West then moved to the Free State, Thusga later moved to the City of Gold as he looked to accelerate his music career. He said he started rapping at the age of 12 and was inspired by motswako hip-hop greats such as HHP, Molemi and Tuks.

Thusga started to professionally pursue his music career in 2014. With the help of DJ Lemonka, he recorded his first single titled Me Myself And I,, featuring Kaygism (KG) from the legendary motswako group called Morafe.

The 26-year-old is also the owner of YORE Media Company, which he signed under. When asked about the challenges he faces as an independent artist, he said having no corporate to back him financially is tough. “I have been telling my Gs, it is one of the hardest things to do when you are an artist. It takes a lot of financial muscle and if you have a company backing you financially it helps,” expressed Thusga.

He is now based in Johannesburg as he continues to work hard towards his goals. The eloquent rapper’s hustle is vivid as his newly-released single titled I Guess You Never Know, featuring hip-hop sensation Emtee continues to climb up the charts on various radio stations.
