The Yarn Tree opens its doors in Parktown West

PARKTOWN WEST – Yarn Tree gives back to Baragwanath Hospital.

Opening celebrations were held at The Yarn Tree as the organisation opened its doors for the first time in Parktown West.

This small yarn business is where ‘yarn addicts’ can get their stitch fixes. Gill Rabie, from The Yarn Tree said the opening was also the start of a charity initiative. “We have committed to donating little booties and beanies to the Baragwanath Hospital,” she said.

After operating out of premises in Houghton, owner Adrienne Antonites decided it was time to run this small business from her home in Parktown West, together with three friends. “I always thought The Yarn Tree had great potential, and when my partner offered me the opportunity to buy her share of the business from her, I took it and moved it to my studio in Parktown where I could give it the full focus it deserves,” said Antonites.

To celebrate this move, The Yarn Tree had beautiful displays of yarn projects which delighted the guests, along with attractions such as extreme knitting and a looming demo, which provided entertainment. Yarn, of course, in hundreds of colours and textures was on sale.

She added that the store has a wide variety of hand-dyed natural South African yarn and guarantees that if they don’t have what you want, they’ll source it for you.

A magnificent Afghan blanket which was created by a group of women from Silken Threads was also being raffled. “The proceeds will be used to buy new wool to knit blankets for a family in the Free State,” concluded Rabie.
