Three townships to vie for beauty crown

ALEXANDRA - A beauty pageant of a different kind pitting rival townships against each other will be staged on 30 July and 6 August, with the finals scheduled for 3 September at Alexandra's Eastbank Hall.

Organisers, Black Rose Academy of Alexandra, said they were looking for 20 girls around Alexandra aged between 17 and 28 who are interested in representing their township in the prestigious competition.

Marks Bernards, marketing director of Black Rose Academy, said the three townships had partnered to host the beauty pageant and that Soweto and Tembisa organisers will co-ordinate their own contestants in the event.

There will be 20 girls from the three townships who will vie to be crowned overall beauty champion on 3 September.

The pageant will be run as a Miss Alex versus Soweto versus Thembisa 2016 Pageant. Bernards said the 20 girls will compete as townships in the quarter-finals which will take place in Soweto’s Eita Naledi Hall on 30 July, with the semifinals set for 6 August at Tembisa’s Sam Hlalele Hall.

The beauty champion of the three townships will be crowned at the Eastbank Hall in Eastbank on 3 September, Bernards said.

The beauty queen of the competition will walk away with R2 000, a Smartphone and an MP3 player plus free and automatic entry into the Miss Province 2016 pageant. The two runners-up will receive R1 500 and R1 000 respectively, including Smartphones as well as free and automatic entry for the Miss Province 2016 pageant.

Bernards called on interested girls to register by e-mailing their particulars such as name, surname, age, contact details, the place they come from, and include a head and shoulders and a full body photograph to blackroseacademy48@gmail.com

The closing date for entries for the pageant is 15 June and Bernards urged all interested girls to seize this opportunity to represent their townships in the first-ever beauty pageant of its kind.
