SAFW comes to a close

HYDE PARK – Designer collections take to the SA Fashion Week runway at Hyde Park Corner

South African Fashion Week (SAFW) kicked off on 5 April and fashion lovers were in awe of all that our local designers had to offer.

From 5 to 9 April Hyde Park Corner was transformed into the fashion capital of South Africa as the country’s most fashionable people and elite designers ascended on the shopping centre to check out all the designer clothing pieces on show during the Spring/Summer 2016 season.

SAFW SS16 kicked off day one with Gert Johan Coetzee taking his collection to the runway, followed by Somerset Jane, T’Niche and Colleen Eitzen, among others.

Keys Fashion and Sies!Isabelle were some of the designers who sent their looks down the runway on day two.

Urban Zulu, Sober and JJ Schoeman were some of the designers to show their lines on day three, and on day four there was an exciting show that decided the fates of a number of contestants taking part in an exciting competition.

The first show of day four was none other than the SAFW Scouting Menswear in association with GQ Magazine, where Floyd Avenue was chosen as the winner of the prestigious contest.

Day five saw the collections of House of Ole and Naked Ape take to the stage and all the exhibitors were a sight to behold.

“It’s been so amazing to be here at SA Fashion Week,” said model and socialite Robyn Africa.

“I’ve just been dying over the clothes that have been on the runway during the past week. All the designers have offered us something very different this season and what’s best is that I think a lot of us are seeing things that we can actually wear in our everyday lives.”

Today, 11 April, is when buyers and media can take a look at the collections at the Buyer’s Lounge, also at Hyde Park Corner, but 12 and 13 April is when the lounge opens up to the public to find their perfect designer clothing.
