While walking around, we spotted a tall gentleman with a really long beard, headphones in his ears and bopping his head.
I thought to myself, I need to have a listen to that as well. I stopped and asked him if he was willing to tell us his story, and he was more than willing. With so many up-and-coming artists and a tough industry to crack into, I wanted to hear what he had to say.
Hailing all the way from Mpumalanga, with his stage name Mr Salz, Salim Mkhonza is taking his dreams to greater heights. His inspiration to produce house music is one that began at a tender age and has since matured into a deep passion.
Mr Salz started his music career back in his hometown and has since been given opportunities to showcase his unique sound.
Recently, he was given the chance to have a one-man show in Tanzania. When asked to elaborate on his trip there in March, his whole face lit up. “I am bursting with excitement, my dreams are finally coming true and this has opened up a new world for me, musically,” he exclaimed.
It has not been an easy road, with many disappointments along the way. However, his dedication and commitment to his sound have been priorities in his life.
When asked what inspires him and keeps him going, Mr Salz smiled and said keeping his listeners tapping their feet and feeling motivated through his music. He is influenced by the sounds of well-known DJ Black Coffee.
The journalist asked to have a listen to what he had been listening to and was amazed by the production and story behind it. “I lost my brother a few years ago and made a song called Worlds apart,” added Mr Salz.
With artists popping up all over, Mr Salz expressed how his sound is of different. “My story is told through my music,” he said simply. He maximizes every beat of every track to create the unique sound. His sound is one of deep, infectious dance grooves and creates a feel-good atmosphere.
