Plans to rock out

NEWTOWN – When trawling around Newtown, City Buzz bumped into Yokim Pillay who was in the area checking out Bassline, the location for his band's next gig.

He revealed that he plays lead/rhythm guitar for the alternative rock band, Deity’s Muse. “The band itself has been around for over 10 years now, but I joined the band in August 2014.”

Deity’s Muse consists of Wayne Boucher on vocals and who plays guitar, Sashan Pillay on drums, Alvin Boucher plays bass and provides backing vocals while Yokim plays guitar. “We’ve played around many music venues in Johannesburg, Pretoria and Cape Town since I’ve been in the band,” explained Pillay.

“Only recently have we been given the opportunity to play around here, and we’re really excited to be able to play at The Good Luck Bar on 7 May, and with some amazing acts to boot!”

He also revealed that the band will be rocking the stage at The Bassline in Newtown on 23 April.

When he’s not on stage playing like a rock star, Pillay is working hard at an internship at the Johnathan Andrews Photography Studio, where he’s doing photography and graphic design.

Or he’s discovering town.

“I love checking out the coffee shops and any quirky shops around town, it’s just an incredible feeling to discover something special in this place.”

Time was running short but he admitted that his favourite spots to hang out at are Post, or Anti Est… or Father Coffee… or at Doubleshot Coffee & Tea. “I’ll stop now,” he laughed.

Before dashing off, he gave a winning smile and a cute wave, “Hopefully, we can bump shoulders at the show and in the city again!”
