Know where you are in the city

JOBURG - It's time, again, to find out how well you know your city.

Visiting the city can sometimes cause stress and anxiety due to the number of cars and taxis on the roads, the possibility of getting lost and not to mention all the horrific stories you’ve heard about Johannesburg.

Now, getting lost in the city should be the least of your worries because City Buzz is helping you identify your surroundings by the graffiti you see.

This piece of street art – while interesting to look at – can also serve as a marker to identify where you are in the busy city. It is situated where Viljoen and Smit streets merge, at the lower end of Braamfontein.

If you are looking at this piece of street art, you are within walking distance of the epicenter of Braamfontein where there are always people moving between coffee shops and restaurants – a bustling area where there’s always something happening.

From here you can walk on to De Beer Street and you will find The Bannister Hotel where you can grab a meal or a room for the night, then move on to the Neighbourgoods Market if it is a Saturday; or 70 Juta where you will find the Post coffee shop, Parooz clothing store, Pichi Pichi Sushi and a number of other stores that sell hand-crafted goods.

Should you choose to rather explore Melle Street just one street over from De Beer, you will find The Grove. The Grove is a popular hangout where students can take a seat on the Isabelo Bench, charge their phones and use some free wi-fi. Or you could grab a bite to eat at 86 Public pizzeria; or even watch something interesting on the big screen at The Grove.

If getting home is what you want, you will find the Gautrain on Smit Street, also within walking distance of the street art.

Getting lost in the city is a thing of the past because you know where you are, now.
