Food, Booze & Tattoos comes to local TV screens

JOBURG - The brand new TV series about South African counterculture, Food, Booze & Tattoos, will hit our TV screens on 21 January.

This new 13-part series from executive producer Rebecca Fuller-Campbell, follows presenter Brett Rogers on an epic road trip as he travels across South Africa tracking down the most mouth-watering food establishments, the coolest micro-breweries and the edgiest tattoo parlours.

If you’re wondering why you should be excited about the show, City Buzz has the answers for you.

“The series is about travel, music, food, artisanal products and a whole lot of entertainment,” Fuller-Campbell remarked.

Not only does the series reflect the hipster culture which is prevalent in Joburg today, but it also visits some of the most popular places in the city to get a taste of it and to expose it to residents.

The producers of the series visited Melville, among other places in the city, and got a taste of some delicious muscles at The Leopard restaurant.

“Food Booze & Tattoos is a counterculture travelogue looking at the beauty of South Africa through a… unique lens,” she continued.

“There are so many microcosms around South Africa and we discovered that these are often bound together by food, booze and tattoos. We wanted to explore this in a beautiful series that showed off the country and the amazing people that reside in it.”

The crew explored the best in food and alcoholic beverages during filming, but Rogers endured the pain of getting a load of new tattoos.

“What we focused on was food lovingly prepared, with care and with ethical concern for the sourcing of ingredients and, of course, the food had to be delicious,” said Rogers.

“I got six tattoos over a period of about 45 days so there was not much time to recover in between each one. But I loved getting them.”
