Radiofien heats up the airwaves

JOBURG - The young artist shot her debut music video for her single, The One, in and around the heart of Newtown, but it was a long journey to get there.

In her early school years, Radiofien realised she had a passion for music and entertaining her family and friends.

“I had a makeshift microphone that I got from my mom and dad, and I’d sing Aerosmith – 90s songs – along to the videos on VH1 and MTV,” explained the up-and-coming rapper.

It was later, at boarding school, when she was given her first electric guitar – a gift that further encouraged her passion and allowed her to progress to writing music and choreographing dance routines for each song.

“At first, it started off as goofy raps, spoof raps, but eventually, upon taking a gap year after high school, I came across J Cole and he fired me up to grab this thing by the horns and go full-on rodeo.”

Since seriously pursuing her career in the rap game, she has been hard at it for two years and is pleased to be making a mark.

She has made great strides in the two short years – strides that others have only been able to make in a much longer space of time – but it hasn’t come without its challenges.

In the future, she wants her music to have the same effect on people as the music of the greats. “I see myself travelling the world and entertaining the masses through what I love. I want to move people, like, break-out-into-a-fit-from-being-overwhelmed move people; the effect Michael Jackson had.”

Having had a guest slot on Coke Studio, South Africa’s newest entertainment programme, the rapper shows no signs of slowing down.
