Into the music and out of the tabloids

JOBURG - City Buzz caught up with local alternative pop/rock band, Gangs of Ballet, at Universal Music for a chat about their new EP which is soon to be released.

Gangs of Ballet is made up of three members namely Brad and Josh Klynsmith and Jonathan Rich – in case you didn’t already know about the chart toppers.

Released almost two years ago, their first EP was titled Yes/No/Grey and fans not only identified with the content of the music, but also fell in love with their alternative style paired with emotional lyrics.

The content from their first EP came from their experiences at the time, when Josh was getting married and Brad was recently married.

“It’s just our stage of life at the moment – it’s our head space right now,” explained Brad.

“Also, we love people, so writing about the people we love and relationships is kind of our thing,” he continued.

The new album, Form and Function is set to be a three-parter, with the first part that was released on 9 October and featured six tracks.

“It’s not that we didn’t have songs to put on the album,” Brad explained.

“We had about 40 songs that we wrote and produced for this project, but we found that it’s just easier to track in small batches and that the energy for those songs is fresh.

“The way we’re doing this album is with no rules. Usually, you release a 12-track album and you tour for a year-and-a-half, but with this one we’re free. We’re going to try make each of them sound a little different than the previous, but the next one may be all bongos and unplugged, and filled with collaborations,” said Brad.

The friendly, down to earth and creative guys have a lot planned for the future, and it shows in the way they keep their heads in their music and out of the gossip sections.
